Ascension is the character development system of Final Fantasy XV. In the Ascension tab, selected from the game menu, players can customize the Abilities of the Characters, by using accumulated Ability Points to pay for them. The nodes in each character's ascension sphere can be freely chosen, and the abilities you choose do not impact stats, instead they unlock powerful new abilities for Noctis and the party. The ascension sphere functions like a tree and as you unlock abilities, you can access new ones further down their branch.
Noctis is the only character who can unlock abilities in the the Combat grid.
